Scholar Stories
Keona Banks Becomes Nvolve’s First Scholar Accepted to Medical School
When Keona Banks received her first medical school acceptance, she knew exactly who to call. Through Nvolve’s mentorship program, she had been paired with Dr. Izumi Hinkson, a mentor who guided her through two years of academic decisions, career goals, and personal challenges. As a first-generation Biology major at Howard University, Keona leaned on one piece of advice that stayed with her: “Women in science already have enough hurdles as it is, don’t get in your own way.”
Today, Keona stands as the first Nvolve scholar accepted to medical school. Her story is proof of what becomes possible when brilliant students are met with the right guidance and people who truly believe in them.
